Photographer Profile
Aubrey Wade was born in the Netherlands in 1977 to British parents, and completed a degree in Social Anthropology before turning to documentary photography. His work continues to focus on social, political and cultural issues in some of the world's most interesting and challenging areas. Based principally in London , he divides his time between assignments and long-term personal projects, for which he has received several international awards. He has worked in over 20 countries and his work regularly appears in magazines worldwide.
Itinerary (11 nights / 12 days)
Day 1, Kathmandu
Arrive and check in to your hotel.
Day 2, Kathmandu
Morning walking tour of Kathmandu ; afternoon at leisure to explore the city and look for souvenirs.
Day 3, Zhangmu
Travel overland from Kathmandu to Zhangmu in Tibet . (B)

Day 4, Nylam Pass - Lalung La - Xegar
A full day's drive from Zhangmu to Xegar. (B)

Day 5, Xegar - Everest
A scenic drive to Rongbuk, close to Everest Base Camp. There is a small monastery here and unrivalled views of Mt Everest. Return to Xegar for the night. (B) Approx 8 hours driving
Day 6, Shigatse
A long drive from Xegar to Shigatse crossing a 5,220m pass, visiting Sakya Monastery if time allows. There are sweeping views over the varied and majestic landscape.(B)

Xegar - Shigatse (3,841m)
Another long drive across the Gyatso La Pass (5,252m) via Lhaze to Shigatse. This is the second largest town in Tibet and has a long history of importance as a trading and political center for West-Central Tibet .
Day 7, Gyantse
Morning visit to the Tashilhunpo, the monastery of the Panchen Lama. With its traditional Tibetan architecture, striking golden roof and 26m high Buddha this is the largest yellow hat monastery in Tibet and one of the most impressive. Continue to Gyantse where you visit the Kumbum stupa and the Phalkor monastery. (B)

Day 8, Lhasa
Scenic drive via Karo La (5,010m), Kambala (4,794m) and the sparkling turquoiseYamdrok Lake to Lhasa . (B)

Day 9, Lhasa
A full day to visit the exquisite temples and palaces of Lhasa . We enjoy a guided tour of the Jokhang Temple , the Potala Palace and the important monasteries of Sera and Drepung. (B)
Day 10, Lhasa
A full free day to further explore Lhasa . Relax on a rooftop cafe overlooking the Jokhang Temple to watch the many devout pilgrims as they circle the temple, head for the summer palace of the Dalai Lama and `thief's island' or scour the markets for the beautiful Tibetan souvenirs. (B)
Day 11, Kathmandu
Fly from Lhasa to Kathmandu . (B)
Approx 2 hours driving to airport.
Day 12, Kathmandu
Tour ends.

Tipping: To avoid embarrassment and save you money all tours operate a tipping kitty. Please allow US$20-30 for the tour. This does not include a tip for the tour leader which is entirely at your own discretion.

Local Payment
There is a local payment of US$440 on this tour. This must be paid to the Tour Leader in US Dollars cash on Day 1 of the tour.
